Also the stance width is pretty narrow this year at a 21.5 reference stance. Its not a board Id take into the trees or ride in tight spots. The Jones Mountain twin is stable enough for jumps while still being flexible enough to butter and press. When set back it acts a little bit like a tapered directional ride in powder. It powers over chunder and tracked up snow pretty well if you size it right for your boots. This is about as close as a board can get to being a quiver of one. It's just okay at pow, and pretty good in the park. However, I still personally felt out of my element with the wider waist compared to the 2017 model. Boots: Adidas Tactical ADV, Adidas Acerra We ride all East Coast PA, a lot of icy groomers. Uneven Terrain: We actually like the Jones Mountain Twin better here with uneven terrain than the Jones Ultra Mountain Twin. Before the camber ended before the first binding inserts on the inside. Switch:If you want to center up the stance and ride switch its still a directional twin that will almost ride like a true twin. However slow turn initiation for smaller boot riders, although not as bad as toe/heel drag, sucks a lot too. Or, if you want somethitng a bit more directional, faster turning and more floaty the Jones Frontier is a great choice. Bindings: Union Atlas, Burton Genesis X, Its not perfect but its really fun for all but the super technical go massively big riders. yes standard vs jones mountain twin. Switch: I really wasnt buying into the directional volume twin thing at first but after riding switch with a centered stance it felt almost the same. It can even do pretty well in ice if you have to ride it. If your stance corresponds to the set back inserts then you can get a little more directional float. The base has good glide too. The rubbery personality of the YES Standard is good for creating a nice protection layer for all that is happening underfoot when you ride. yes standard vs jones mountain twin. Days:50+ The YES Standard has a directional volume twin shape that acts pretty much like a true twin when on reference stance. The pop has improved for 2021 and we feel like we can get a little more air out of an Ollie with the 2021 over past models. yes standard vs jones mountain twin. I think we have about 8-10 friends of The Good Ride try this board. It starts out in the smaller sizes (149-153) as a board that is best for size 8-10s. It can still lay it out in all conditions but if this is important to you look for another board. It is a pretty stiff board both torsionally and tip to tail, giving it stability but also limiting feedback, feel, and fun. GET ONE NOW!! How This Review Happened: Weborrowed this for an extended demo and then returned it. The Optimistic 2016 and Standard 2017 have the same directional volume twin shape and same camber profile so I can vouch for the Standard. The 153 works best with my size 9 boots and the 156 works best with my 185 lbs and less importantly, my 510 frame. The only thing that keeps it from being excellent is the flex. We do make money from the Where To Buy links, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average riders perspective. However, the sidecut mellows out over the inserts so it tracks really well. So in conclusion this is another excellent board from the Nidecker Umbrella that is Jones Snowboards. On top of that there is early rise in the nose/tail and the mellow spoon tech helps this board roll easier into a turn in powder. Capita Mercury. Turn Initiation: One of the biggest complaints with the Jones Mountain Twin is the edge to edge transitioning. Edge Hold: The 2017 Yes Standard grips well but it doesnt grip like the Under Bite or Middle Bite tech. Size:158 and 156 . Conditions: Sunny blue skies, super warm temperatures, some wind, slush, chop, chunder, ice, and hero snow on perfect corduroy. The lower volume nose allows the tail to sink a little better and combined with those slam back inserts the board transforms from a directional twin to a board that feels more like a directional freeride board when you get into the deep stuff. The Jones Mountain Twin didnt out shine any of the other mostly rocker hybrid camber boards we tried but seemed to tie with them in terms of performance. Our Recommended Bindings: Union Atlas, Union Force, Union Contact, Union Contact Pro, Burton Cartel, Burton Genesis, Burton Mission, Salomon Hologram, Now Pilot, Arbor Cypress. Its not an ice specialist but good in the conditions most find acceptable. Jibbing: Its a little on the stiff side for jibbing but you can make it happen. Jones Snowboards' founder Jeremy Jones helps you find your perfect snowboard in this multi-part video series that explains the differences between Jones models and how key components of a board's design affect board performance. Carving: Really fun to carve. Especially good directional float in powder. It increases edge hold and improves turn initiation for a board of a wider width underfoot. Flex:Felt medium across the entire board and maybe bordering on the medium soft side of medium. Even the tip/tail butter easier than they use to. On groomers it acts like a twin on edge but in powder this floats more like a directional board. I have this years 156 jones mountain twin wide and its amazing. I find myself passing people left and right on long flat cat tracks. So all in all the Yes Standard continued on where the 2016 Optimistic left off and even though it has a moderately stiffer flex its a really fun quick turning all mountain ride. The 2018 156 seems like its also slower than the 2017 156w by a little bit as well. No real changes were made to the 2019 but I got it mainly to compare against the Yes Ghost. And as advertised, this is an all purpose, all-mountain boardmeaning if you travel for trips and only have one board to bring, this qualifies nicely. With a 20.7 stance width you can set it back 2.25 back from center of the board when using the slam back inserts. 151: 8-9 yes standard vs jones mountain twin. I thought about trying the 153 but the max stance width is 22.1 so I couldnt even get to my minimum 22.5 stance width for that board. I'm really wanting one board . It tracks really well into jumps too. Carving: Very fun to carve and this mostly camber board really makes for good lay it out springy carving turns. The Jones MT is better than the Capita and Burton. The Jones Mountain Twin surprised me with how park-friendly it is. Nothing out of the ordinary but it can ollie rather well. Riders:James, Matt,, Peter, Jimbo and many others There seems to be more rocker in the nose/tail than many other mostly rocker hybrid twins or directional twins with a centered stance out there. We did update the written portion of this review was updated to reflect how this rides in comparison to what else is out there in 2020. Best Women's Snowboard for Carving: Rossignol . I constantly spend my time trying to match the right waist width to the right boot size so Id like to see more waist widthsfor such a great board. Great set back on board for powder. If I can only take one board on a road trip this would be it. If you keep the edges sharp the Mountain Twin would be a great dedicated pipe board. You can actually set it back 1.75 back from center of board with a 22.8 stance width and get close to 1 with the 22.8 Freeride Reference Stance Width. I kept thinking I would feel the tail act differently than the nose but it doesnt on groomers and I ended up riding switch a lot. It holds through a carve rather well though. Jones Mountain Twin Snowboard - 2022/2023. Its got a great stable feel to it and itsgot a camber feel underfoot that doesnt catch. Dealing with small inconsistent groomers is easy. Skidded Turns: Way easier than last year and you can loose a little control and skid your way out. This is a stand out when it comes to powder riding compared to most all mountain boards out there. Best Women's Powder-Leaning All-Mountain Snowboard: Jones Women's Flagship Snowboard. Shreddit - For snowboarders & those who love snowboards. If you are new to hybrid camber it will take a bit of getting use to but after a few runs it will be really fun. Ethics Statement:We dont get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews and this is our unfiltered opinion. Carving was fun on the old jones but the added camber of the 2013 and 2014 Jones makes it much more fun to carve and its one of its better qualities. Flex/Pop/Buttering: Its got a pretty mediumish flex across the board but on snow, the tip/tail feel softer. Regardless of whether I was high-tailing down a groomer, playing in the park, gliding through trees, or plowing powder it was begging for more. Best Women's Snowboard for Beginners: Lib Tech Cortado C2. If you get this board its meant to be ridden switch a lot so dont buy it if you are a directional rider. The stiffness was right between the burton and the capita but it wasn't as stiff as I expected it to be based on the websites 7/10 rating. Skidded Turns: The rocker in the tip/tail makes the Yes Standard very easy to skid out if you get off your game. It has a shorter spooned nose/tail, longer effective edge, slightly tweaked traction tech and a new base. It feels more like a 3 and it can butter now. Still its got enough to ride in harder snow as long as you dont fully commit in harder snow. Size: 157 Its not a specialist but for an all mountain board it can get you off. All of us who rode it found us passing everyone on long flat cat tracks. June 7, 2022 . Didn't get to try it in pow because of COVID can't wait till I do next year. On Snow Feel/Ability Level/Skidded Turns: This hybrid camber profile called Camrock has a nice balance between rocker and camber that gives you stability underfoot in all conditions and is very forgiving for those that skid your turns often or just want a more forgiving ride when you get off your game. However if you are a strong technical pipe rider you will prefer the extra pop from the standard that will help you boost more. Set Up: 22.75 Centered 15 front -15 back. It holds an edge well enough but also drives well from wall to wall. The YES Standard is lacking pop and a satisfying turning experience but is a buttery, forgiving, grippy and good floating ride. Flex/Buttering: The Yes Standard has a flex that is softer than what YES says so its easier on snow than you would think to butter. Check Their sizes as well for their take and especially so for weight. Its not going to carve like a camber board but its pretty close. Not a great hard turner/carver. The Jones Mountain Twin can skid turns too. The more we ride this board the more it feels like the edge hold is good but closer to the excellent side of good. Switch: So even though the tail has less volumeit doesnt until after the effective edge so its a twin between the feet. It doesnt quite feel like a true twin but it is super close to the point you might not notice. Last year it already had more camber than many of the YES boards and this year it seems like it has even more camber than before. Some people love it, some people hate it (I'm among this group), and some people can take it or leave it. One thing we would like to see is a little more pop through a little more camber or some other tech that can help this snap harder. Its also not super unforgiving on small to mid jumps either. Pipe: There is good edge hold for hard pipes and it inspires confidence while still being forgiving. The Jones Mountain Twin comes in as the cheaper of the two styles of snowboards, but not by a lot. Id love to see them make it a little faster edge to edge. May 23, 2021 . After a huge amount of time pouring over different brands and designs I settled on the Jones. So all in all the 16 Standard isnt as versatile as the 15 Standard but still can make a really strong technical aggressive all mountain freestyle rider happy. Not a lot but a little. I dont worry about making it through the flats but I do worry about weaving in and out around slower skiiers and riders when Im on this board. 159W: 10.5-11.5 Its one of those boards that can wear many hats on the mountain. (We dont put in the exact weight because with wood cores there is no consistency in a boards weight), Here are some ideal US boot sizes for these Jones Mountain Twin sizes. So before the Jones Mountain Twin was bordering on the slow side of medium. It doesnt have that snap back when its bent like many good hybrid rocker boards but its still a great butter board. The 2015 Jones Mountain Twin is very much like the 2014 except it has a lighter more lively core. We have tried many more too depending on conditions, riding styles and moods. Super easy to skid a turn and it works for just about any ability level rider. The YES Basic Globe is a better call if the 155 or 158 fit you. What is cool though is it borders on being medium/fast in softer snow and in powder. It also depends on your boot size and where you ride the majority of the time. Great board. So it still feels like a hybrid camber ride in harder snow but the spoon tech kicks in while in softer snow making it turn a little easier than before. However, if you are the right size like a 10-11 you will have a pretty good time. 151: 8.5-9.5 For the rider who rides in hard to soft and onlyoccasionalice you will be more than happy with the edge hold. However if you compare this to something like theJones Flagshipits going to come up a short. The rocker in the tip/tail makes it really easy. Speed: The nose and tail of the YES Standard can clown shoe a bit but overall its got pretty good mountain speed. Pipe: Soo much fun in the pipe. Missing pop some YES boards Have. Conditions: Some pretty rough, wet hard to ride spring conditions, some ok groomers, and some early summer slackountry time with Drift Boards. Then I went to the burton process and loved it, it was easy to ride and the camber profile was great. I think the extra volume in the nose will help though but Im not sure how much. So it doesnt look as much like a twin as it rides on snow. Home > 2022 > June > 10 > Uncategorized > yes standard vs jones mountain twin. It's a decision I didn't regret.
